July 15, 2018. The day began under the trees in the outdoor church of St. Elizabeth’s in Guerneville, CA where we attended Sunday Mass. What better way to enjoy our Lord’s beautiful creation than to begin with worship together in joy and thanksgiving! After much visiting and enjoying the cool atmosphere under the trees, we headed to the river at Monte Rio beach. We were fortunate to rent a paddleboard, double kayak, and tube. The day commenced with prayer, led by Peter, and a picnic brunch at the water’s edge. After the fog wore off late morning, it was stunningly gorgeous, a cool, breezy day in the 70s with clouds scudding across the sky: a welcome relief from the blazing summer heat further inland. The day was spent in leisurely conversation and in turns gently steering watercraft up and down the river. The water, the breeze, and the lush riverbank proved a restorative and restful scene conducive to community, conversation and an afternoon worthy of the Lord’s day. The day finished with some reading of poetry and promises to meet thus again.
